How to be a good facilitator!

This question is very important, being a good facilitator means you like questions, have sympathy, and courage, and know it’s about the process defects and not the people.

Think about the worst meeting you went to and what that facilitator did. I am going to assume it was boring, monotone, and didn’t have the proper incentives.

When facilitating meetings, you should ask yourself:

  1. What’s in it for my audience? What will they gain from attending?

  2. Why should they listen to me?

  3. Do they have an incentive to listen?

  4. How do we know this meeting went well?

  5. Is this engaging? (aka FUN)

  6. Would I want to attend this meeting?

  7. What is the purpose of this meeting? What do I need to get out of this meeting?

If you are not getting the engagement you want, make it more fun!

  • Include Trivia.

  • Add a game.

  • Do some team building.

  • Have teams compete against each other for prizes!

Be clear, be confident, and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your company can evolve with it.
